PARENTS' RIGHT TO KNOW TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE (ESEA) [SECTION 1112(E)(1)(A)] AND EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT [SECTION 1112(E)(1)(A)]

Dear Parents/Guardians;

We are pleased to have your child at our school and would like to provide you with important information regarding their education. As part of the Bear Valley Unified School District, which receives Federal Title I funding to support students in meeting academic standards, we are required to keep you informed about your rights under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

As a Title I school, North Shore Elementary School takes pride in our teachers and their ability to deliver a high-quality education to your child. To ensure transparency, we want to make it clear that you have the right to request information about the qualifications of your child’s teachers and paraprofessionals. Specifically, you may ask about:

  • Whether the teacher meets state certification requirements for the grade level and subject they are teaching.
  • Whether the teacher holds an emergency or conditional certificate, and if so, why state qualifications were waived.
  • The degrees and certifications the teacher holds, including undergraduate, graduate, and any specialized certifications.

If your child works with a paraprofessional, you may also request information about their qualifications.

Additionally, under ESSA, you can request information on the following:

  • Policies regarding student participation in assessments and how to opt out if desired.
  • Details about required assessments, including:
    • The subject matter being tested
    • The purpose of the test
    • The source of the requirement (if applicable)
    • The estimated time required for students to complete the test
    • The time and format in which results will be shared with you

Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking needed to succeed in school and beyond. If you have any questions about your child's teacher or paraprofessional, please don’t hesitate to contact the school principal, Lora Mancuso at (909) 866-7501. You are welcome to email me at lora_mancuso@bearvalleyusd.org. We are here to help and support you in any way we can.

Sincerely,

Lora Mancuso
